9 Best Sunscreen for Acne-Prone Skin

by

Acne-prone skin is hard to maintain. It’s difficult to not only find a non-oily moisturizer but with sunscreen, it’s almost impossible. The best sunscreen for acne-prone skin comes in many forms, but below are the best kinds for scene prone skin.

1. Olay’s Complete Daily Defense All Day Moisturizer SPF Sensitive Skin

Probably one of the longer sunscreen names, but with the same amount of long-lasting effects. The lightweight feel makes it so your pores don’t clog up, and it lets your skin breathe.

It is also a good moisturizer to mix in with your foundation so you can apply it more easily (quick makeup tip). The non-greasy moisturizer incorporates soothing Vitamin E that calms irritated skin. The serum also has soothing Aloe and Green Tea extract to soothe your skin while combating the harsh sun.

The 30 SPF sunscreen provides 97% protection against UV Rays and thus reduces the chances of developing fine lines, wrinkles, and sunspots. We recommend using it every day, applying it once in the morning, reapplying after exercising or sweating, or periodically throughout the day to make sure it doesn’t wipe off.

2. Banana Boat Baby Sunscreen 50 SPF

Just think about it. If the sunscreen is used on babies, the ingredients have to be made for sensitive and non-irritating skin.

We love the fact that we experienced no skin problems with this at all. In fact, after a week of testing, we found out that it also moisturized our skin quite a bit.

Our favorite aspect of this sunscreen is that it is lightweight. It doesn’t feel heavy and junky on the skin, which makes it easy and enjoyable to put on. Because it’s so easy to apply, a small dab will provide a lot of coverage, allowing you to apply it with makeup or by itself.

3. Neutrogena’s Clear Face Liquid Lotion Sunscreen Broad Spectrum

The Neutrogena brand does well when looking out for skin products that will not cause breakouts. Their sunscreen line does the same.

The best sunscreen in the lineup is any Neutrogena product, but specifically the break out free treatment. The product is oil-free so it will not close up your pores, fragrance-free as to not cause irritation, and non-comedogenic meaning that it will not cause breakouts by clogging pores and trapping dust and dust.

Moreover, the product is water-resistant for up to 80 minutes and thus, does not have to be reapplied as much as the other products. The Neutrogena brand comes in a broad array of SPF strength and you can choose the one you find that works best for your skin.

4. Aveeno Continuous Protection Sunblock Lotion SPF 85

This lightweight sunscreen does well with UV protection and is lightweight just like the Banana Boat Baby Sunscreen. This means it’s easy to apply and won’t block your pores.

Unfortunately, you have to reapply it a little more consistently than the other moisturizers. However, it does have a fragrant, subtle scent that really adds another dimension to the sunscreen that we like.

Recommended if you have sensitive skin and are a fan of the Aveeno brand.

5. Cetaphil Dermacontrol Oil Moisturizer, SPF 30

This non-greasy, super absorbent moisturizer is great for the morning routine.

Cetaphil, in general, is light-weight and appeals to sensitive skin without using skin-irritating formulas. The oil-free formula keeps pores clear and does not actively cause blackheads or acne which makes this one of the best sunscreens to prevent acne.

As an added plus, the moisturizer finishes as a matte finish for most people and works well with makeup.

6. Aveeno Positively Radiant Daily Moisturizer SPF 30

Back at it again with the Aveeno products! This specific moisturizer is used widely by all skin types and ages for a clear finish.

The Aveeno product starts off a tad thick, but after a few minutes your skin will absorb it and you can continue your day! Many people argue that the product causes red and itchy skin, BUT this is most likely because they have sensitive skin.

This specific moisturizer can be compatible with all skin types, however, if you know that you are highly sensitive, I would advise for a lighter product, one that caters more to sensitive skin.

However, this sunscreen is ideal if you don’t have sensitive skin and are looking for strong protection against the sun.

7. L’Oreal UV Aqua Essence Perfect SPF 30

L’Oreal is a trusted brand by many, and their sunscreen does not fall short. This sunscreen comes in both a liquid and mist application, so if you are prone to acne on your body or back, the mist is a great alternative when hitting the beach.

Both forms of an application must be applied once every few hours to ensure ultimate coverage. It may not be totally convenient, but it has a wide range of uses which more than makes up for the constant reapplication.

Happy misting!

8. Cetaphil Daily Facial Moisturizer with SPF 50+

Yup you heard right, SPF 50+. This moisturizer works great, and just like all Cetaphil brands (like the one you read earlier), it has great coverage!

This sunscreen is definitely the most powerful for a sun screen’s primary purpose – protecting skin against the sun. It’s a little heavier than most of the other sunscreens and is quite thick.

However, this sunscreen is particularly great to use on the face since it will help prevent acne, blackheads, and whiteheads.

9. Coppertone Sensitive Skin Sunscreen Lotion SPF 50

For those tight on a budget and cannot afford to splurge on sunscreen, Coppertone has an amazing alternative that works great for acne-prone skin in its Sensitive Skin Sunscreen Lotion SPF 50.

The sensitive formula uses Aloe Vera to calm skin (we all know how important Aloe Vera is for skin) and has amazing coverage that will last a good chunk of the day. It is recommended, like every sunscreen, to reapply every few hours, and with its sensitive solution, it won’t irritate your skin while still providing great sun coverage.

Conclusion

These 9 products are our favorite sunscreens for acne-prone skin. None of them are perfect, but overall our favorite was Neutrogena’s Clear Face Liquid Lotion Sunscreen Broad Spectrum. With its oil-free base, and ability to last long even while in direct contact with the water this quickly became our favorite acne sensitive sunscreen.
